The "mother cannabinoid" — precursor to all others

Biosynthetic precursor to THC, CBD, and CBC. Non-psychoactive with unique pharmacology: partial CB1/CB2 agonist, α2-adrenoceptor agonist, potent antibacterial against MRSA.

THC degradation product — mildly psychoactive

Forms as THC oxidizes over time. Mildly psychoactive (~10% THC potency). Widely marketed as a sleep aid despite limited clinical evidence. Promising antibacterial and neuroprotective preclinical data.

Aromatic modulators — the entourage effect

Over 200 terpenes in cannabis contribute to aroma, flavor, and pharmacology. β-Caryophyllene is the only terpene that activates CB2 receptors. The entourage effect hypothesis proposes synergy with cannabinoids.
