Is CBG more anti-inflammatory than CBD?
Research-Based Answer
Preclinical evidence suggests CBG may have potent anti-inflammatory properties, potentially comparable to or exceeding CBD in some models. CBG acts as a partial agonist at CB2 receptors (which are highly expressed on immune cells) and also inhibits COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes — the same targets as NSAIDs like ibuprofen. In mouse models of inflammatory bowel disease, CBG reduced colon weight, nitric oxide production, and inflammatory cytokines. CBG also activates α2-adrenoceptors, which have anti-inflammatory effects in the gut. However, direct head-to-head comparisons with CBD in human trials do not exist. CBG research is approximately 10 years behind CBD, and all current anti-inflammatory evidence is preclinical.
