What dose of CBD is effective for anxiety?

23 related studiesEvidence-reviewed by PhD researchers

Research-Based Answer

Clinical trials demonstrating anxiolytic effects have used single doses of 300–600mg CBD. This is substantially higher than the 10–50mg found in most commercial CBD products. A 2019 RCT (Masataka, Frontiers in Psychology) found 300mg effective for social anxiety in a public speaking test. The 2011 Crippa et al. fMRI study used 400mg. Chronic dosing studies are limited — most evidence is from single-dose paradigms. The clinical relevance of low-dose commercial CBD for anxiety remains unestablished. For context, Epidiolex (FDA-approved CBD) is dosed at 5–20mg/kg/day for epilepsy, which translates to 350–1,400mg/day for a 70kg adult.
